With Daniel & Jim missing, Graham was still unsure right up to the start of the match who his bottom board was going to be, but eventually it was Adam whose presence, giving the team a 1-point start, took the pressure off the others.

Tye won fairly quickly but Heather, who was press-ganged into playing in spite of an earlier migraine, found herself the exchange down after having established a good centre from the opening. This was the last game to finish and in the end it was Heather's opponent who seemed to be going backwards as his rooks could make no headway against Heather's rook & light-squared bishop. She won a pawn in the early part of the endgame and when the draw was finally agreed, one almost sensed that had she played on fora few more moves there was a blunder in the offing.

Unusually for Graham, his win was in the ending. He won a pawn, established his bishop and rook in his opponent's half of the board and when the opportunities arrived, exchanged the pieces towards a king & pawns ending. However, his opponent blundered a knight to a double attack in a position which was hopeless for Black in any case. Rhys, meanwhile, had a promising position but played too quickly and overstretched, finally blundering his rook to a knight fork. John kept calm and, having wrecked his opponent's pawn structure, then proceeded to remove pawns at regular intervals. His opponent eventually resigned when he was about to go 4 pawns behind in a minor piece ending.
