A turnout of 7 players intending to take part in the Fischer Timings tournament became 8 as, after a considerable amount of arm-twisting, Chris's father Richard kindly took the 8th place to ensure that there was not a bye each round. The time control was 5 minutes per player per game plus 10 seconds per move and this enabled Tye to move so fast that in some games he had more than 10 minutes left on the clock. Perhaps he plays like this all the time?
Many of the games were fairly one-sided, although paradoxiacally Dan probably had the most trouble with Richard, whose strong attack forced some very careful play out of the eventual winner. Rhys had to play Dan last so Tye clearly wanted Rhys to win and cause a 3-way tie. Dan did not allow this to happen. Lloyd played well to win some tricky games.
Kimberley and Melissa had to go before the end, but in the meantime a most interesting position arose in a "friendly" between Tye and Dan:-
Play continued something like
1.Rd7+ Kb6 2.Rxb7+ Kc5 3.Rb5+ Kc4 4.Rc5+ Kb4 5.Rc4+ Kb3 6.Rb4+ Kc2 7.Rb2+ Kd1 8.Rd2+ Ke1 9.Re2+ Kf1 10.Rf2+ Kg1 11.Rxg2+ Kh1 12.Rg1+ Kh2 13.Rg2+ Kh3 14.Rh2+ and stalemate next move
which amused everyone but Dan.
