Customs & Excise Chess Club
Minutes of the 2000 AGM
Present:
Frank Gulley, Dave Brunt,
Mark Jones, John Hart,
1 Apologies were received from Mike
McDowell, Tom Bottrill, Charles Bowering, Peter Walker and Melvyn Pool.
2
The minutes of the 1999 AGM were read and
agreed.
3
Dave Brunt gave a brief Secretary’s Report.
The first team had been relegated from Division 1 having gained three points
only. The second team maintained a mid-table position in Division 2. but surpassed
itself by getting to the final of the Perryman Cup where they lost by the
narrowest of margins. The third team gave the best league performance finishing
third in Division 3.
Special mention must
go to Graham Walker who reached the final of the Southend Individual Plate
competition but eventually losing.
In the club
competitions Mike McDowell made the final again but could only draw with Peter
Walker, so the trophy was shared. The Plate was contested by Matthew Jellett
and Tom Swift with Matthew coming out on top. Graham Walker suffered a second
final defeat when Nick Jellett beat him in the Junior Cup Final.
The first year of
the Grand Prix for the Mike Waldock Trophy had provided continuing entertainment throughout the season. Dave
Brunt especially thanked Mike McDowell and Charles Bowering for providing
specialised evenings for the club members. The competition went right down to
the wire and a stunning performance, in the problem solving, on the final night
saw Peter Walker come from nowhere to win the competition. Tye Byram was the
Best Junior.
4
Dave Brunt presented the Treasurer’s Report.
After a brief discussion the accounts were adopted.
